Ursula Gardelli grew up in Palo Alto, California, where she graduated in 1980 from the University of California in Davis with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. During her studies she worked as a volunteer and summertime-intern at the San Francisco Zoo. In 1981, as a dual citizen of Switzerland and the U.S.A., she immigrated to Switzerland with the ambition of studying veterinary medicine and with the desire to learn more about her second homeland.
In 1987 she successfully completed her studies with the diploma of veterinary medicine from the veterinary faculty at the University of Bern. The following 2 years she remained in Bern, working at the Institute for Veterinary Pathology, focussing mainly on birds and reptiles. Thereafter she began working as a small animal practitioner in a practice in Muttenz near Basel where she remained for 15 years. She maintains regular contact with the Zoo Basel where she was a volunteer during her studies. In 2006 Ms. Gardelli joined forces with Ms. A. Jaggi here in Pratteln at the Kleintierpraxis am Bahnhof and is co-owner of the practice.
She is mother of a daughter and was a day-mother of 2 boys for 9 years. She lives in Bottmingen, is co-president in the BOZ Familien- und Begegnungszentrum Bottmingen (family center) and passionately plays clarinet and piccolo in local ensembles.
